Traits of a Wife Who Walks in the Spirit

wife who walks in the Spirit

Every Christian woman desires to be a wife who walks in the Spirit. But who exactly is this woman? What does she do? What makes her different from every other wife?

Read on to understand the traits of a wife who walks in the Spirit, so you can become that woman.

A Wife Who Walks in The Spirit Submits to and Honors Her Husband

Irrespective of her achievements in life, a wife who walks in the Spirit submits to her husband’s authority. She knows that submission to her husband will not depend on what he does, but is her obedience to the Lord.

Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

Ephesians 5:22-24

A wife who walks in the Spirit is a woman under God’s authority. And since the scriptures instruct her to submit to her husband, she knows that rebellion against her husband is rebellion against God.

She also honors her husband publicly and privately through her words and deeds. Surely, she covers him, never letting any negative light about him reach others.

She Does Not Idolize Marriage

A wife who walks in the Spirit understands that marriage is a covenant made by God to help her experience Him. But she does not idolize marriage.

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

Philippians 3:8

She knows that purpose and Kingdom assignment are her goal. Everything at her disposal, including her marriage, is supposed to be a tool with which she brings God’s kingdom on earth.

A wife who walks in the Spirit knows that her worth on earth is beyond being chosen by a man or bearing the title of ‘Mrs.’ So, her gaze is constantly fixed on Jesus so that she can bring His presence to her home.

She will never waste an opportunity to establish God’s kingdom on earth on the altar of marriage. And she ensures her marriage is never exalted above God’s person and authority in her life.

She Walks in the Fullness of Her Identity

A wife who walks in the Spirit is so anchored on who she is in Christ that she has completely killed the desire for comparison, competition, and performance.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Psalms 139:14

She knows who she is in the Spirit and will never try to be anything less than that to impress anyone—not even her husband.

And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Colossians 2:10

She loves her husband with all her heart, but she does not merely sit around waiting for his validation before she understands her worth. She knows the immense value her presence alone brings to every space.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:10

The wife who walks in the Spirit may not possess absolutely everything there is to possess on earth. Still, she is so confident in what God has deposited in her and her husband that she has no ounce of fear for the future.

She wears her sonship and identity in Christ like a garment so she does not live in guilt, shame, or mediocrity. Nor will she sit and watch her household live below who God has called them to be.

She Stands as a Watchman

A wife who walks in the Spirit is a warrior. She does not merely ‘pray for her husband.’ She wins wars in the Spirit for her lineage and generations to come.

This wife paves the way in the Spirit for her children even before their arrival. And she co-labors with God in the place of prayer to see that her husband, children, and those around her are aligned with God’s original design for their lives.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…

II Corinthians 10:3-5

A wife who walks in the Spirit does not play the game of finger-pointing. Instead, she has mastered the art of doing battle and bringing every happening, experience, and anomaly in her home under the authority of Christ.

No, this wife will never sit and watch the enemy take what belongs to her. So, she is vigilant, discerning, and prophetic – speaking words of life and banishing darkness from her home, all while on her knees.

She Builds Her Home

A wife who walks in the Spirit knows that though she is a Spirit being, she dwells in a material world, and her assignment is to establish God’s reign here on earth. So, she builds herself up in all aspects.

This wife is intentional about the state of her mind and her emotional, physical, and financial well-being. And she does her best to cater to the well-being of her family.

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

Proverbs 14:1

She builds with her husband, ensuring their home stands firmly in every area. The only thing you’ll ever see the wife who walks in the Spirit tearing down are the lies from the pit of hell. She builds every other thing with her hands and the fruits of her lips.

The wife who walks in the Spirit is not a lazy woman. Absolutely not! She embodies excellence and spends her resources to improve in every area of her life. You bet she does not leave her children out. She teaches them the God path right from their early days, ensuring that they find God and are relevant here on earth.

The wife who walks in the Spirit doesn’t simply speak in tongues. She translates her tongues to generational value and economic gain for her household and her world.

You, too, can become that wife who walks in the Spirit.
