Let’s start with something really important about how Easter impacts you as a Christian. EASTER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BUNNIES AND EGGS!!
Do you believe that the Bible is true and is the bedrock of the Christian faith?
If yes, then let’s make it clear that not a single word of Scriptures talks about or implies anything around bunnies and eggs when it comes to the celebration of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. If any animal was to be included, we all know it would be the donkey. But even that was never emphasized by scriptures.
So, yes. Easter is the celebration of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, not for bunnies and eggs.
Nevertheless, if Jesus died, was buried, and rose on the third day, what has that got to do with you? How does Easter affect your life at the moment? What difference does it make for you at all?
Well, if you have believed in Jesus Christ for salvation, here are the different ways Easter impacts you as a Christian:
You Are No Longer Bound by the Power of Sin
If you are conversant with the creation story, you’ll understand that the fall of man (through the disobedience of Adam and Eve) gave sin legitimate entrance into the earth. All of a sudden, the man God had created in His image and likeness became subject to the power of sin, to the point that the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Genesis 6:5).
But then, God is holy and just. He hates sin, and will not tolerate it, not even from the very people He created in His image and for fellowship with Him. Yes, God created us so that we could share fellowship and be intimate with Him. Read this blog to get more clarity on why God created and saved us.
Since sin would not make God change His mind about why He created us, something had to be done about the sin problem that kept us away from Him. However, even the solution to the sin problem had to come from someone or something that had never been held by the power of sin. None of us could have qualified because we sprang from a lineage already corrupted by sin. And since the wages of sin is death – what we deserved was death. Only God Himself was not affected by the power of sin, so He alone (through Jesus) qualified to be the propitiation for our sin. So, God sent Jesus to die to atone for the sins of the world.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
II Corinthians 5:21
So, one of the very critical ways Easter impacts you is that you are no longer God’s enemy because your sins have been blotted out and you have been reconciled to God by the sacrifice of His Son. Since Jesus bore your sins and paid for them, God is no longer (and will never be) angry with you.
The Devil No Longer Has Power Over You
Yep. You read right. What gave the devil power over mankind after the fall was the power of sin. Since Jesus paid for our sins, you are no longer bound by the power of sin, and so the devil no longer has power over you.
Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!
Colossians 2:15
So, the next time you want to cower, shiver, or cry because of the devil and his operations, remember that Jesus has stripped him of all his weapons. Any power he seems to have over you must certainly have been handed to him by you, and you can always take it back and stand your ground!
You Now Enjoy the Privileges of Those Who Belong to God’s Family
Another way Easter impacts you is that you are now a part of God’s family and you get to enjoy the privileges of being a member of this family. There are many parts to the privileges in this family, but I’ll highlight two.
The first is that as a member of God’s family who has been delivered from the power of sin, you can now enjoy God in beautiful intimacy by His Spirit. You have the privilege of having the Spirit of God dwell in you to help you know and fellowship with Him, and also help you exercise the dominion He gave us when He created us. Why not acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit today, and see how good your relationship with God will become.
Secondly, as a member of God’s family, you have angels as your guards and messengers. For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways (Psalms 91:11). Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:14).
Apparently, many Christians who celebrate Easter do not have any clue about the ministry of angels, and so they go about life like people who do not have any kind of supernatural help. So, as you celebrate Easter this year, be conscious of the fact that God has commanded His angels to guard and help you on your journey in life – and angels do not sleep on duty!
After This Life, You’ll Reign with God for Eternity
This, here, is one of the ways Easter impacts you that should bring you joy and comfort all the time, irrespective of what you may be going through at the moment.
Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Revelation 20:6
If you believe the writings of the Bible, especially God’s promises to you, then you should believe it when scriptures tell you that you will reign with God after this side of life is over. Isn’t this supposed to be the pursuit of every single person on earth? What would be the use of living and going through all the turmoil life throws at you if the moment you drop dead becomes the end for you?
Oh, but what joy we have, knowing that our journey here on earth isn’t even qualified to be called a fraction of the beauty we would enjoy with our God after this world is over, or after our pilgrimage on earth has faded out.
Conclusion
As you celebrate Easter, never forget its impacts on you and what the sacrifice of the cross has freely made available for you!
